My mother gave me one of the most memorable pieces of financial advice I’ve received when I was 12-years-old.

She was extremely good with money and very aware of where every cent was being spent.

I was sitting under the Christmas tree in 1987 and she gave me Noel Whittaker’s ‘Making Money made Simple – 1987 Edition’.

In the book was a note from my mum that said: ‘I hope you find what you’re looking for in this book, but just remember, money can’t buy you happiness but it can provide you with peace of mind. Then you are free to discover your own happiness.’

Even though she provided me with a book on personal finances, it was her handwritten comment in the cover that has stuck with me the most.

Now I am the Branch Principal with Yellow Brick Road North Lakes based in the thriving area of North Brisbane and I still haven’t forgotten that advice.

I believe this principle my mother gave me is still very poignant and relevant today. I teach it to my staff and my clients so that they too can enjoy a secure future.
