Jackson Millan from the Yellow Brick Road Dee Why branch offers advice for aspiring investors

Jackson Millan

The most memorable piece of financial advice I have been given came from my dad.  He is 65 years old and funnily enough, just like me, started his career in Australia as a financial planner (previously known as an investment and insurance agent) in 1988. After understanding that, unlike me, his passion wasn’t in managing money he transitioned to being an engineer in the oil and gas industry.

There’s a particularly good piece of life advice he gave me that I often draw upon. He said, “stick to what you know and outsource everything else.”

It was very timely advice. I was young and ambitious and given I had just completed my studies to become a financial planner I had run head on into the industry trying to master everything I could on my mission to become the best.

I remember this vividly as it was a call back to reality to help me realise that being a specialist is always better than being a generalist and that I should work with those around me to leverage their skills to benefit my clients.

Well, today I am a wealth manager with Yellow Brick Road Dee Why on the sunny Northern Beaches of Sydney and I still haven’t forgotten that advice.

I remember this every time I work with my clients as I believe most of the people we help understand that they are able to make better use of their time by outsourcing their financial affairs to a professional. Each day I strive to ensure I can give my clients back their valuable time so they can stick to what they know and love most.
