My father was a builder, not a financial adviser, but he gave me one of the most memorable pieces of financial advice that I’ve ever received.

It wasn’t earth shattering but was a simple principle that has guided me in how I’ve lived my life ever since.

When I was 19, my family was living in Turkey and I just had started my first job. It paid well for my age but I was spending it as fast as I earned it.

One day I was questioning where all my money went and my dad pulled me aside. He told me, ‘son you can’t spend more than you earn, and as a matter of fact you should be saving 20%.’

Well, today I’m a financial adviser with Yellow Brick Road Nerang which covers the beautiful area of Pacific Pines, Carrara, Maudsland and Nerang. I still haven’t forgotten that advice. It’s a basic principle that I teach regularly to my clients and I truly believe will help anyone get started on the right path to building wealth.
