My mother provided me the most influential financial advice I have ever personally received.
She said, “look after your money but don’t be greedy. Saving is the foundation of your future.” Well, she actually said it in Arabic, but this a fairly close translation.
My mother is a loving person who is sincere, empowering, humble and a one of a kind mother. I remember her giving me this financial advice when I was in my early twenties when I was just about to start my first full time job as a research assistant with a boutique asset consultant.
Today I am a wealth manager with Yellow Brick Road Maroubra based in the beachside area of Sydney, and I still haven’t forgotten that advice.
And to be honest, I’m not renowned for listening to my mum’s advice, but this advice has really stuck.
Personally, I always have some kind of savings plan in place and recommend my clients do the same. It’s a great way to exercise financial discipline.
