When I was 12-years-old my grandfather gave me one of the most memorable pieces of financial advice.
I was visiting him in his home in Bathurst where he was a schoolteacher who specialised in single teacher schools.
His advice to me was: ‘It's not a bargain unless you need it.’
How true it was but at that time I wasn’t ready to listen to it yet. If I had followed his advice properly, I would not have bought a lot of useless things over the years that I never really needed.
This is advice now that I share with my kids and teach it to my clients so hopefully they will save themselves some money.
